How different of this Malay Wedding that I've attended with my hubby & his colleagues last Sun? Well, basically at least these few pts below are my first time:
1. Posh decorations, using BLACK & GOLD as main theme color (well, normally Chinese would avoid using BLACK, but unlike Candice Y's wedding la..haha..) But overall.. NICE!
2. Special decoration items such as:
i) Bird Cage (?) on some tables, with the groom & bride's name inside. What does it signify? Hmm... Once you get into marriage, you are being "caged"? No more "freedom" liao...haha.. So "meaningful" right? And to add on, the cage can only be opened outside, so married couples can't "escape" once they are "caged" in, and needs an external party to "free" them.. External parties could be 3rd party, family members, etc etc...haha... So imaginative ya!
ii ) Chandeliers held on the ribbon across the ceiling.. Posh right? At a void deck! Hahah...
iii) A pyramid of cupcakes (I dun dare to touch it cuz I think its not available for consumption hor? hee)
3) Groom-fetching-Bride session
Amazingly I din know that for Malay weddings, they also practice the blocking of groom till they get ang pow from him before he can fetch the bride. So for what I saw, there are 3 stages whereby he was blocked.
- 1st stage is before the platform where the bride is seating (waitin for him to come fetch her), where an uncle (whom I presume is the bride's representative) to get ang pow from him.
- 2nd stage is where the Brother of the groom, followed by the groom himself, negotiating with the bride's jie-meis who are standing nearer to the platform, holding to a gold silk long cloth blocking the entrance.
(With all these happening, one jie-mei will be sittin beside the bride, covering the bride's face with a pink feather fan)
- Heard there is a 3rd stage (also by the sisters)..but din really see it happening cuz' its too crowded liao...
Interesting huh? There's even a Kuey Tu-Tu stall there, making delicious coconut filling Kuey Tu-Tus, as if like pasar malam stall..haahaa...
