26 April 2008: Jill's Wedding

A sec school girl friend of mine exchanged her marriage vows with her hubby yesterday. We were invited to attend both her solemnization ceremony at Chijmes in the morning, and her wedding dinner at Shangri-la Orchard hotel in the evening.

~ At Chijmes:

Chijmes is simply beautiful and elegant.. Never thought that one day I will be invited to attend a wedding at Chijmes... (Quite costly mah). Felt like I was in a private party in such a nice place.. Every single thing or people inside the church seems so beautiful...

Blissful look of the wedded couple, being blessed by the Lord, their family & friends

The Butts (short-form for "Butterfly Gang") attending their solemnization ceremony

Us, with the beautiful bride

~ At Shangri-la Orchard Hotel

Felt proud of myself, cuz I managed to guide Philo to the hotel, after getting some directions help from Dear, safely. Ha! To me, its not an easy task as the guide beside the driver, has to be sure, so as to give the driver utmost confidence on the (unfamiliar) roads. Shangri-la Orchard Hotel overall looks old, but the ballroom is spacious and elegant. Our friend has a total number of 63 tables!! Wow! As both of their families have many business associates, so no choice have to accommodate such a great number of guests. Also, the groom being the heir to the Khong Guan company, has to network network too mah.

The girls gathered at my house to prepare themselves for the dinner, and were as if they were preparing for Prom Nite! After going for their hair styling in the afternoon, they went back my house for the makeup preparation work. They took sooooooooo long in gettin themselves prepared, putting on the foundation, eyeshadow, eyeliner, and even fake eyes lashes. Wah! I waited until so sian lor.. Mine is the simplest. Just some simple makeup and spraying on my short hair, I am done within 15 mins? Whereas, I bet they took between 30 - 45 mins bah... Women just love to make themselves pretty... sigh...

At the hotel, I had a surprise! Ch 5 artistes - Randall and Melody were also holding their wedding dinner at the ballroom beside our friend's ballroom! I din know they were together as a couple leh!! And I was so excited cuz I tink Randall is so handsome!! Aw.... I was in an ecstatic mode all night lor.. Trying to sneak into the toilet beside their ballroom, hoping to chance upon some artistes lor.. My guy frens saw Ericia Lee (and got smitten by her) and another fren saw Adam Chen. Why I only saw some unknown female artistes in the toilet leh? hmmp... Anyway, one of their wedding portraits outside the ballroom are really nice and special (U can take a look at one of the sneak shots I took below), and one picture shows them being semi-naked with jeans, and Randall cupping his both hands over Melody's breasts!!!  Oh my!! Beautiful couple... At the end of my friend's wedding dinner, I was sneaking around at the door and saw them shaking hands with their friends.. I was like a paparazzi, secretly taking pics of them, then suddenly one of their guests saw me!! Being such a nice lady, she offered to help me take pics of them and even asked to go and take with them! I was so shy so I din go over. But she managed to help me take pics of the couple, and 2 unknown friends..wahahaha.. I was being so star-struck and silly rite?
(I loved this picture a lot! Cuz' I think its quite special and fun-loving pic of the couple!)

The star couple, and 2 unknown friends.. haha..Ok, enuf of my star-stuck moments. Next to mention is that at my friend's wedding dinner, there was a live band and even had free song dedication program! We listened to so so many nice good old oldies, love songs from the band, and even had spontaneous guests going up to sing for the couple and the audience. And dun you think that they dun have standard hor. They sang wonderfully!! Juz like professionals! Dedication right from the bottom of their hearts...

Food spread is good. Even had some dishes on the menu that I have not tried before ... We liked it very much. There was this emotionally touching part - Jill's elder brother had a surprise speech for the couple and from the speech, we can feel how protective and caring this brother is to his younger sister.. Made me think that probably having a baby boy first isn't that bad after all hor? Hee..

After the dinner, we went to Dempsey Hill's Oosh for a drink and catch-up session.. That is a very nice place! We sat on the 2nd floor, alfresco area. I lie my head on the sofa head, and looked up at the clear skies.. Wow... There were a few stars shining.. Wind from the fan blew in our direction.. It just feel so so so relaxed and cooling... The guys said quite a few 欠扁问答题 and they are really funny!! Made me laugh until my body got jelly...

I'd a very very very enjoyable nite... It feels good to be witnessing a friend's blissful wedding and it feels good to be in the company of good pals...

Cheers to Jill & Michael, and cheers to everyone being alive and happy!

Simply beautiful church... totally mesmerized by the church's deco and elegance...

A beautiful church, A beautiful couple, a beautiful wedding & a beautiful love chapter in life that they will start together with...

Secretary's Week Lunch

Din expect myself in for another free Secretary's Week Lunch Treat this year cuz technically speaking I am an Administrator, not a Secretary. Anyway, since they have decided to include me, so be it! Ha!
1 nice free meal to enjoy mah

Lunch is at Equinox - An exquisite selection of International Buffet. Had an excellent bird's eye view of the Singapore city from 70th floor of the building. A pity we din manage to get a table near the window.  Well, I still manage to get some nice pics on my hp camera (Stupid me. Brought along the camera with no batt!)

~Can see the Singapore Flyer at far end on the left hand side?~

~Esplanade and the vast sea view~

~The tall office buildings (including my office building just right opposite!) & the short shophouses~

Among the 6 of us, I am the only young one in the mid 20s age range. The rest are all aunty-range. Felt real odd and out of place, but did try my best to fit into the group. haha.. Can u imagine them even engaging in a discussion about "senior citizen ezlink card"? My goodness! I am so out of it!

Spread was alright. Took a bit of the foodies I like/can eat, - from the starters, main dishes, japanese sashimi, to the desserts. So overall I am not over-stuffed with food.. Nothing in particular that I really find it fantastic.. But something to mention that this is my first time trying foie gras. Tastes like fats, yet a little nice with its baked taste, accompanied by the sweet jam by the side. Really something different and a new experience for me, thou' I won't spend money to have that.

Our 1st Outdoor Movie @ the Lawn (The Chijmes)

A very special program we'd today - Outdoor Movie @ The Lawn (The Chijmes)

Have always wanted to go for such kind of outdoor movie screening together with Dear, but do not know how or where to get information on the screening details. My last experience was with my group of girl friends, watching Lord of the Rings Marathon @ Fort Canning Hill. Was a very special experience indeed. This time round we passed by Chijmes and saw the banner ad, and decided to check out their website for more details.

Feelin' all excited about the outdoor movie thingy! Shall we prepare popcorn or tabao McDonalds? All sorts of questions running thru' my head… haha.. Sounds like a kid going to her first outdoor movie...

Cushions were provided for movie-goers, who sat on the big floor mat on the lawn. Dear chose the restaurant behind the lawn instead of sitting on the floor mat, as we can drink and sit on chairs while watching the movie - Blades of Glory. (He can't sit too long on the floor, cross-legged) hee...

The show was not bad. We had a great laugh and relaxed ourselves on a Friday nite. Cool!

Finally "Upgraded"!

My ring has finally "upgraded" to another level liao! Haha.. Walked past SK that day and saw this 50% promo for one of the design ranges, and Hubby decided to buy one for me for no special occasion. Probably as compensation for the small one I had for the past 2 years..haha..

Being so used to the small one, I actually find that 0.5c is BIG and not suitable for me.. So I chose the smaller one - 0.46carat. Can't imagine myself wearing 1carat ones… Must be HUMONGOUS on my short little finger.. Hee.. After comparing the previous (top ring) and the new one (bottom ring), Hubby actually realise how pathetic the previous ring looks! Well, it is still his token of love when he proposed to me, and I know he has spent lotsa efforts choosing the cut, clarity, grade etc.. Just only forgetting about the "carat"  (: P)

Love it very much and will continue to wear it for ages…(That should be my
BIG gift for 2008! Hubby, I promise no more requests from me liao!)

The Twin's - Nicole & Kelly - 1st Birthday Party!

Hubby's cousin had a pair of twins last April. And the twins - Nicole (姐姐) & Kelly (妹妹) celebrated their 1 year old birthday @ The Grassroot Club's Children Playground yesterday.

Both little angels (as supported by their angel wings in their birthday suit yesterday) are shy and always started to cry a little when there are many other unfamiliar faces around, or when their Daddy or Mummy walks away.. sigh.. really difficult to play around or pose photos with them.

Anyway, we'd a fun time playing with the "informal" 主角 who is non other than my Dawn Dawn!! haha.. Initially she was abit reserved and din dare to play.. Then after hubby brought her along to play with the balls and then she started to open up and got herself very into the games.. haha.. glad she'd fun! But poor hubby got tired after running around with this hyper-energetic little niece.. hee..

Raffles Place

What is the common impression of Raffles Place? Packed with white-collared working class, "bustling" with life especially during weekdays lunch hours, and full of S.T.R.E.S.S in the air?

To me, probably I am already used to such sights, that I do not find it "suffocating" to breathe the 'Raffles Place air'. In comparison I find Orchard Road is more stressful than Raffles Place cuz I seldom patronize this shopping paradise. Instead, recently I have taken a different view of this place where I have to call it my 2nd Home…

During lunch hours, there is always something new, something vibrant, something entertaining going on at the Raffles Place open space. I have seen many creative advertising gimmicks being displayed there, which consists of artistes roadshow, creative signboards, "walking" advertisements, makeshift marquee tents -- All selling fresh ideas! Truthfully I am amazed by the "creativity" in terms of Singapore context. I am always thought S'pore is quite rigid, orh-bit ("traditional") and not have such creative advertising ideas! So I think I was wrong.. Haha..

Also recently I have found a few of breakfast choices near the MRT station. So, I can have different kinds of breakfast should I get tired of having home-spread bread.. It kinda brighten up my working-day a little la..

This is my recent perception of Raffles Place.

The Girls' 1st cooking experience - Breaded Fish Fillets!

The 3 girls - Tanlin, Suling & me, had our 1st cooking experience today (cookin' together). Brought the ingredients from Cold Storage before heading to my house for the cooking.
We brought frozen fish fillets, bread crumbs, salad, eggs, strawberries and maggi mee. We are going to have breaded fish fillets, stir-fry maggi mee (both Tanlin's suggestion) and salad.

Firstly we marinate the fish fillets after thawing them, then to coat the fish fillets with bread crumbs before deep-frying them. Simultaneously Tanlin started to prepare fryin the eggs, then the maggi mee.. Dear also prepared his 拿手好菜 - the Rosti with bacon.
Then Ta-Dah! We 'd a full meal prepared liao! One thing to complement Tanlin, is that the breaded fish fillets that she prepared is really good.. Ate quite a good few pieces. Will learn to do on my own..hee.. Hope it's successful la.

It's our first time cooking together. It was fun, but a lot of washin up! haha... Enjoyed every single moments with them! Prob next time they can come and do baking instead?

1 April : My 1st Day @ New Workplace

It's April Fool's today! Nobody played any tricks on me and neither I played any on others.(Think I am gettin too old for April Fool's jokes liao! Ha!)

Anyway, today's my 1st day at my new workplace. My goodness! When I saw how cramped the morning train was, I was astonished! Have not been taking MRT to work for close to 2 years liao.. didn't expect that I cannot even squeeze into a single carriage!Have to wait for the 2nd one somemore.. Guess I have to get used to it liao...

As my new company in Singapore context only occupies 2 levels of office space, it is much much smaller in scale as compared to my previous company. Even in terms of infrastructure and facilities, also not as well-equipped. However I feel that being small has its advantage, cuz I will get to know everyone in time to come.. I like tis 'big' family feeling.. Warmth and close-knitted. So long the company benefits are good, who cares about the physical size of its staff strength! My colleagues are kind to me and I feel comfortable working with them. Hopefully we will build up strong teamwork gradually. At least for the 1st day, they have not overwhelmed me with too much info/ work so I can pick up at my own pace.

I feel very welcomed especially when I saw the email and intranet announcement of the newcomers in this month. Seeing my name and brief introduction of my previous work experience makes me feel proud! I also got a HR Induction Pack consisting of the company's mug, notebook etc! Call me sua-gu but I feel really different when I received such treatment. I have not gotten any of these in my 2 previous companies.. so it really elevated my pride being treated as a permanent staff! I am glad I made the right choice in joining this company..

With this good start, I hope it will lead to good working days in the future! I must Jia You!
